Summer 2012
This summer's productions start with a delightful comedy that is humorous, thought provoking and timely and ends with one of the most romantic musicals ever written. Beautiful music and heartfelt laughter-what could be better in the rolling hills of Connecticut on a summer's eve?

'The Solid Gold Cadillac ' by George S. Kaufman and Howard Teichmann
(June 1, 2, 3 and 8, 9, 10, 2012) This funny corporate satire first hit the Broadway stage in 1953 and ran for over 500 performances. In 1956 Columbia Pictures released the film version starring Judy Holliday. The story begins at the annual stockholder's meeting of General Products Corporation, one of the largest business conglomerates in the nation. The board is electing new officers as the company's founder, President and CEO has just left to take a high level government position in Washington. Laura Partridge, a small shareholder (10 shares) rises from the audience somewhat timidly to ask a simple question: How much does the chairman of the Board make, and what does he do to get paid so much? From this moment on the General Products Corporation will never be the same! Don't miss this comedy about the isolation and small mindedness of corporate greed and the power of the "little guy" to create an even playing field.

'South Pacific' - Music and Lyrics by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein (August 2, 3, 4, 5 and 9, 10, 11, 12, 2012).
The musical 'South Pacific ' with music by Richard Rodgers and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II draws from James A. Michener's Pulitzer Prize-winning 1947 book Tales of the South Pacific. The plot revolves around two romantic relationships - an American nurse at a U.S. Naval base, during World War II, falls in love with an expatriate French plantation owner with a mysterious past and a Marine officer sent to the island on special mission becomes enraptured with a native Tonkinese woman. These central plot lines provide the context for a bold and open exploration of racial prejudice. The musical premiered in 1949 and won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1950. The original Broadway production won ten Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Best Score and Best Libretto and it is the only musical production ever to have won all four Tony Awards for acting. The 2008 Broadway revival was a strong success, winning seven Tonys including for Best Musical Revival.
